Widgets, Siri And Spotlight

FerventWord App puts today's reading on your Home Screen, answers questions from Siri, and lets iOS search find a book, a topic or a plan.

The Two Widgets

Today's Reading shows what your plans assign for today. Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit Widget, and you can choose whether it shows everything today holds or a single plan, and what color it is.

Your Meditation shows the passage you last set aside to dwell on — the most recent one in Menu → Your Meditations, whether you made it here or in Prayer Mentions. It follows along on its own as soon as you make another.

Both come in the Home Screen and Lock Screen sizes iOS offers, and both open the app where they point.

Which Plan The Widget Shows

Settings → Widget Options decides what Today's Reading shows when it is set to one plan rather than everything. Choose the plan there, and the widget follows it.

Control Center

FerventWord App offers a Control Center control that opens the app. Add it from Settings → Control Center on your device.

Siri And Shortcuts

Ask Siri, or build a Shortcut from these:

  • Read today's reading, which says what your plans assign for today
  • Today's readings, which hands back each passage, its edition and its plan as separate values, so a Shortcut can use them without reading an English sentence apart
  • Open a passage, by book and chapter — Open Romans 8 in FerventWord App
  • Open the Bible Guide for a chapter
  • Resume reading, which opens where you last were
  • Recent passages
  • Send a meditation to Prayer Mentions

Every phrase includes the app's name, which is how Siri knows which app you mean.

⚠️ Nothing is donated to Siri. The app never hands Siri a record of what you have read, which means Siri will not learn to predict your reading — a cost taken deliberately, because that record would sit somewhere Clear Recent Passages cannot reach.

Spotlight

Swipe down on your Home Screen and search, and iOS will find:

  • Every book of the Bible, which opens that book
  • Every documentation topic, which opens that page
  • The reading plans the app ships with, which open Reading Plan Setup
  • Every chapter of the Bible Guide, which opens that chapter's guide

Nothing you have made is in that index. No notes, no highlights, no notebooks, no recent passages and no meditations — only things that are the same for every reader.
