Sharing A Plan

A reading plan you have made can be given a short code, so a friend, a class or a whole congregation can follow the same plan.

Giving A Plan Its Code

When you set a plan up, Give It A Code is on. The plan is sent to ferventwordministries.org and a short code comes back — something like `K7M-P2Q-R9X`. You can ask for a code of your own instead, four to twenty letters and numbers, so a church can use a word its people will recognise.

A code is permanent. There is no way to change it afterwards, and no way to take it back once somebody has it, so the switch sits beside a sentence saying so before you publish.

The plan's reminder times are removed before it is sent. When you read is yours.

Inviting Someone

Edit Plan offers two rows once a plan has a code:

  • Invite Someone sends your words, the plan's code with a link, and a picture of the code. On an iPhone with FerventWord App, tapping the link opens the app with the code already typed in. Without the app, it opens a page that shows the code and where to get the app.
  • Save The Picture gives you the picture on its own, for a noticeboard or a slide.

Starting A Plan From A Code

Open the menu and choose Enter A Plan Code. The same button is at the top of Reading Plan Setup and on Get Started. Type the code, or tap Paste, and tap Find The Plan. If somebody sent you a link, tapping it does the typing for you; nothing is looked up until you tap Find The Plan. The app shows you what the plan holds — its name, its length and its readings — and nothing is added until you confirm it.

If FerventWord App set up a plan for you when it was installed, the app asks whether to remove it once your new plan is added, so the plan you were given is the one on Today. From then on it is your plan: rename it, change its start date, add reminders, remove it.

A code is forgiving about how it is typed. Upper or lower case, with or without the dashes, and the letters that are easy to confuse by eye are treated as the same letter.

Its Days, As A File

Edit Plan has a section called Its Days, As A File, which writes the whole plan out:

  • Print The Schedule gives you a PDF, laid out to print, with the plan's code on it
  • Save As A Spreadsheet gives you a file you can sort, filter, or paste into something else

Both list every day of the plan with its date and its readings.

What The Ministry Knows

A published plan is a document on a server and nothing else. There is no account, nothing identifies who published a plan or who opened one, and nothing links two codes together.

What is counted is plans, never readers: how many plan documents exist, which of the app's plans they compose, and how many times a code has been used. A congregation of two hundred following one code is one number here, not two hundred people.

If a plan needs to come down, write to [email protected].
