What This Policy Covers

This policy describes the Prayer Mentions iOS app — what it stores, what it shares between its own parts, and the few things that can leave your device. It does not describe your visit to this website, which is an ordinary WordPress site hosted by Fervent Word Ministries.

What The App Stores, And Where

On Your Device

Everything you enter is written to the app's own private storage on your device:

• People: first and last name, and — if you added them from Contacts — one phone number and one email address, plus the identifier iOS uses for that contact. Any notes you write about them.
• Prayer requests: the text of the request, its schedule, its end date, and which person it belongs to.
• Meditations: everything you have written, with the date you wrote it.
• Settings: your schedule, reminder times, preferences, and the message you have chosen for Send Text Message.
• Notification bookkeeping: which reminders this device has already scheduled.

Each record also carries the name of the device it was last changed on — whatever you have called your iPhone or iPad — along with an identifier iOS assigns to this app on this device, and the time of the change. The app uses these to work out which device wrote what when the same list is open in two places.

Shared Between The App, The Widget, And The Share Sheet

The widget and the share extension are separate programs, so the app keeps a small shared area they can all read. It holds your current meditation, the pool of meditations the app can revisit, the names of the people scheduled for today, the text of today's prayer requests, and a list of the people on your list. Anything captured by Siri or the share sheet waits there in a short file until you next open the app, and is removed once it has been saved. There are three of these holding files — one for meditations, one for prayer requests, and one for people — because each of those can be captured without opening the app.

This area is private to Prayer Mentions and its own extensions. No other app can read it.

Shared With FerventWord

FerventWord is our Bible reading app. If you have both apps installed, they share a second small area on your device — separate from the private one above, and used for exactly two things.

• A passage you send from FerventWord. Choosing Make Meditation while reading writes that passage there, and Prayer Mentions picks it up the next time you open it and makes it your current meditation. Nothing is written unless you choose to send it. An unread passage is removed after fourteen days.
• Your current meditation. Prayer Mentions writes whichever meditation is current there, so FerventWord can show it. Only the current one — not your history.

Nothing else crosses that area. Your prayer list, your prayer requests, your notes and your settings stay in the private one, and FerventWord cannot read them. Neither app can reach the other's private storage.

Your meditations themselves are kept in one shared place that both apps read and write, so a meditation you make in either one appears in both, on every device signed in to your iCloud account. That is a second private iCloud database, separate from the one holding your people and requests, and it holds meditations and nothing else. It has no switch of its own inside the app. On iOS 17 it does not sync at all, like everything else.

Each meditation records which app made it and when it was made. Nothing records how many you have made or when you last made one.

Deleting a meditation deletes it in both apps. A deleted meditation is marked deleted rather than erased immediately, so that the deletion reaches your other devices and the other app instead of being undone by them; it stops appearing anywhere the moment you delete it.

All of this stays on your device. None of it is sent to Fervent Word Ministries, and none of it syncs to iCloud through this shared area.

Snapshots

About once a day the app saves a complete snapshot of your data — every person including phone number, email and notes, every prayer request, every meditation, and your settings — as a file inside its own storage. It keeps the 30 most recent daily snapshots and the newest one from each of the last twelve weeks. A snapshot written just before a restore is kept indefinitely, because it is the thing you would need if the restore was a mistake.

These are ordinary files belonging to the app, so they are included in an iPhone or iPad backup — to iCloud or to a computer — in the same way the rest of the app's data is. They are not placed in iCloud Drive and are not visible in the Files app. You can save one out yourself from Settings → Data & Backups.

Crash And Performance Files

iOS occasionally hands the app a report about a crash, a freeze, or its own battery and memory use. The app writes these to its storage and deletes them after 30 days. They are never uploaded. They contain technical information about the app, not anything you wrote.

Storage Health

Each time the app starts it writes a short note to its own storage recording whether it was able to open your data, and keeps the twenty most recent. A note holds the date and time, the app and iOS version, how much free space the device has, the names and sizes of the app's own database files, and — if opening failed — the error iOS reported. It contains nothing you have written: no names from your list, no requests, no meditations.

If the app cannot open part of its storage, it moves those database files aside into a folder of their own rather than deleting them, and records that it did. That is so nothing is lost while the problem is worked out, and so the files are still there if anything can be recovered from them. They stay until you remove them or delete the app.

None of this is uploaded. It is written for the app's own use on your device, and it leaves the device only if you choose to send a diagnostic report.

iCloud Sync

iCloud sync needs iOS 18 or later. On iOS 17 nothing on the device syncs: your prayer list, your requests, your meditations and your settings stay on the device they were written on and are not sent to iCloud at all. Everything else in the app works as usual, and Data & Backups can still save and restore a copy. If you also use Prayer Mentions on a device running iOS 18 or later, the two will hold separate lists until this one is updated. The app says so on its own iCloud Sync screen, where the switches are shown turned off and cannot be changed.

On iOS 18 or later, if iCloud sync is on, your data is mirrored into your own private iCloud database — the part of iCloud that belongs to your Apple Account. Fervent Word Ministries has no access to it. We cannot read it, cannot list it, and could not produce it if asked.

Four things sync separately: people and requests, meditations, settings, and the meditations shared with FerventWord. The first three can each be turned off on their own under Settings → iCloud Sync inside the app, and all three start switched on; turning one off keeps that part on the device it is already on. The fourth — the meditations shared with FerventWord — has no switch of its own, and is described under Shared With FerventWord above.

The last of those is a second private iCloud database, shared with our FerventWord app and holding meditations and nothing else — see Shared With FerventWord above. Fervent Word Ministries has no more access to it than to the first.

Notification scheduling never syncs. Each device works out its own reminder times.

Apple's handling of iCloud is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

What Leaves Your Device

Things You Can Choose To Send Us

Two of them, both written into a mail message that opens on your screen so you can read it before you send it. The app never sends either one by itself.

• A diagnostic report. Attached as a text file from Help & Support. It describes how the app is set up and how its recent syncing went: app and iOS version, your device model and its name, your language setting, whether an iCloud account is available, the identifier iCloud uses for you, recent sync events and any errors, whether you have granted notification and contacts permission, how many people, requests and meditations you have, the names and sizes of your snapshot files, your settings, the length of your current meditation, how much free space the device has, the storage-health notes described above — including the names and sizes of the app's database files and any that have been set aside — and the app's last hundred internal log lines. It carries no names from your prayer list, no notes, and no meditation text — the coverage section deliberately reads "Person 1", "Person 2".
• A feedback email. Whatever you write, plus your app and iOS version.

Both arrive at [email protected] and are kept only as long as they are useful for answering you.

Things You Send Somewhere Else

Sharing a meditation, or texting someone from their page in the app, hands the text to whichever app you choose. Where it goes after that is up to that app.

Send Text Message opens Messages with a message already written, so you can read and change it before sending. What it says is yours to set under Settings → Text Messages, and by default it includes your current meditation — switch that off there if you would rather it did not. The app fills the message in and nothing more; sending it is always your own tap, in Messages.

Donations

Donating is entirely optional and is the only part of the app that talks to a server of ours.

Payment is taken through Apple Pay. Your card details go from Apple to Stripe, our payment processor — they never pass through the app and we never see them. Stripe returns a one-time token, and the app sends three things to Fervent Word Ministries: that token, the amount, and the email address Apple Pay collected for your receipt. The address is passed to Stripe so Stripe can email you a receipt. Both Stripe and our own site keep it with the record of your donation, as part of the payment record. It is not added to a mailing list, we do not use it to contact you about anything else, and it is never joined to anything from the app — there is nothing from your prayer list it could be joined to.

That address is the only personal information the app ever transmits about you. No name, no device identifier, and nothing at all about your prayer list is sent or could be linked to a donation. If you choose not to share an address at the Apple Pay sheet, your donation goes through exactly as normal and no address is sent — you simply will not get an emailed receipt.

Stripe's handling of the payment is governed by Stripe's privacy policy.

Apple Features The App Uses

• Contacts. Only if you allow it, and only from the Add Person screen. The app reads first name, last name, phone numbers, email addresses, and the contact identifier, and shows you the list. Only the people you actually select are saved; the rest are forgotten as soon as you close the screen. You can grant or revoke this in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Contacts.
• Notifications. Written and scheduled on your device — nothing is sent through Apple's push servers. A reminder can contain a person's name, the text of a prayer request, or your meditation, so it will appear on your Lock Screen like any other notification. Manage them in iOS Settings → Notifications.
• Spotlight. The app adds the names of people on your list to your device's own search index, so you can find someone from the Home Screen. Notes and meditations are never indexed.
• Siri and Shortcuts. What you dictate is handled by Siri and handed to the app. The app does not tell the system when you use it, and does not ask Siri to predict or suggest anything about who you pray for.
• Widget, Lock Screen, and Control Center. The widget displays your current meditation, which means it can appear on your Home or Lock Screen. The Control Center control only opens the app — it shows nothing itself and reads none of your data.
• Share sheet. Text you send to Prayer Mentions from another app is saved as a meditation, or as a prayer request if you choose that instead.

Third Parties

Stripe's software is the app's only external component. The app requests no tracking permission and reads no advertising identifier, and nothing it does is tracking as the App Store defines it: nothing about you is joined to data from any other company. Its App Store privacy report declares one thing collected — the email address for a donation receipt, described under Donations below — and no tracking.

How Long Things Are Kept

• What you write stays until you delete it. Nothing expires on its own.
• Snapshots: 30 daily, plus one a week for about three months. Pre-restore snapshots are kept.
• Crash and performance files: 30 days, then deleted automatically.
• Storage health notes: the twenty most recent. Database files set aside after a failure to open them are kept until you remove them.
• A passage sent from FerventWord and never collected: 14 days, then removed.
• Internal log lines: the most recent hundred, held in memory only, and gone when the app closes.
• Email you send us: as long as it takes to answer, then deleted on request.
• Donation records: held by Stripe and by our site as long as accounting and tax rules require. If you shared an email address for a receipt, the record includes it; that address is the only personal detail a donation record carries. Nothing about your prayer list is in it, because nothing about your prayer list ever leaves your device. You can ask us to erase your donation record — see Your Rights.

Deleting Your Data

Deleting a person, a request, or a meditation in the app deletes it, and the deletion syncs to your other devices — a meditation is deleted in FerventWord too, since the two apps share one list of them. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on that device, including snapshots, crash files, and any database files it had set aside. The area shared with FerventWord belongs to both apps, so it is removed once you have deleted both. To remove the iCloud copy as well, use iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.

You can take your data with you first: Settings → Data & Backups exports every meditation as dated plain text, and a snapshot file is a complete copy of everything.

A donation record is the one thing deleting the app does not reach, because it is not on your device: if you donated and shared an email address for the receipt, that record sits with Stripe and with our site. Email us and we will erase our copy and ask Stripe to erase theirs, subject to the accounting records we are required to keep.

Children

Prayer Mentions is not directed to children under 13. There is no account to create, and the app never asks for an age, a birthday, or any other identifying detail — so it holds nothing that would tell anyone, including us, how old a user is. A parent can remove everything by deleting the app.

Your Rights

The honest position is that these rights are unusually simple here, because we hold almost nothing about you. There is no account, no profile, and no copy of your prayer list on any server of ours. The one exception is a donation: if you have given, we hold a payment record, and it carries the email address you shared for the receipt. So:

• To see your data — open the app. All of it is on the screen.
• To correct it — edit it in the app.
• To take it with you — export your meditations as text, or save a snapshot file.
• To erase it — delete it in the app, or delete the app.
• To withdraw consent — turn off iCloud sync per category in the app, or revoke contacts and notification permission in iOS Settings.
• To see or erase a donation record — email us. This is the one thing you cannot do from inside the app, because it is the one thing that is not on your device.

The only personal information we ever actually receive is an email you choose to send us, and a donation payment handled by Stripe — including, if you donated and chose to share it, the email address Apple Pay passed on for your receipt. If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR rights of access, rectification, erasure, portability, restriction, and objection apply to those two things, and you may complain to your national supervisory authority. If you are in California, the CCPA rights of access and deletion apply to the same two things — and we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined, and never have.

Changes To This Policy

If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date, and anything significant is called out in the app. Older versions are not archived; the date above is the one in force.
