Reminders

A nudge toward today's reading.

Adding One

Open Reminders from the menu, or the Reminders section of any plan, and choose Add Reading Plan Reminder. A reminder belongs to a plan, and each one asks two things: what it should be about, and when it should arrive.

You can add them while you are setting a plan up, or later from the plan itself — the same controls either way, so nothing is out of reach at the moment you choose a plan.

The first reminder you save asks iOS for permission to show notifications. If you say no, or turn notifications off later, FerventWord App keeps your reminders exactly as you set them — iOS simply will not show them until you turn notifications back on in the iOS Settings app.

What A Reminder Is About

A plan with more than one passage a day offers a choice. Today's Reading names every passage the plan holds that day, in one notification. A single passage names only that one — so a plan with two passages a day can have one in the morning and one in the evening.

Reminders are always optional. A plan with none works exactly the same and still appears on Today.

When It Arrives

Settings → Reminders holds three times you set once — Morning, Afternoon and Evening. Every reminder that uses a slot moves when you change it, so adjusting Morning by half an hour adjusts every morning reminder at the same time.

A reminder can also use a custom time of its own, or a random time each day inside the Random Time Window, which you also set in Settings → Reminders.

How Many

You can have up to 20 reminders a day across all your plans. FerventWord App schedules several days ahead so they arrive whether or not you open the app, and that is the number that fits.

At the limit, Add Reading Plan Reminder is unavailable and the screen shows how many of the 20 you are using. Remove one and it comes back.

What A Reminder Says

It names the passage, or passages, assigned for that day. It never mentions a day you did not read, and there is no badge count — a number on the app icon is a score, and this app does not keep one.

Tapping a reminder opens that plan's reading for that day: the plan, the date, and the passages themselves. Tap it the next morning and it still shows the day it was for.

Across Devices

Each device schedules its own reminders, but they are computed from the same settings and the same date, so they land at the same time on each. Your settings sync; the schedules themselves are local.
