Every book of the Bible is two taps away, you can hold three places at once, and everywhere you have been is one list.
Choosing A Passage
Tap the books button at the top right of any screen, or swipe in from the right edge. The drawer opens on a grid of all sixty-six books, colored by the part of the Bible they belong to — the same grouping ferventword.com uses. A book's color says what kind of writing it is, never whether you have opened it.
Tap a book to see its chapters, then a chapter to open it. Books with a single chapter open straight away.
The book name at the top of the chapter grid is the way back.
Verses
If you want to land on a particular verse, turn on Settings → General → Include Verse Selection. The drawer then asks for a verse after the chapter, and the passage opens with that verse at the top of the screen.
Verse selection is off to begin with, so choosing a chapter stays two taps.
The verses offered are the ones your current version actually has. Versions differ here: the King James has Matthew 17:21 and the ESV does not, so the grid follows the edition you are reading rather than a fixed list.
Bookmarks
The reading bar has three bookmarks on the left. They let you keep three passages open at once and move between them without losing your place in any of them — useful for reading something alongside a cross-reference.
- The first bookmark is where a new passage goes. It is the one you arrive on.
- Tap an empty bookmark and the drawer opens, ready to point that bookmark somewhere.
- Tap a bookmark that already holds a passage and it comes back exactly where you left it, scrolled to the same place.
- To change what a bookmark holds, go to it and then open the drawer again.
- Each bookmark can be read in its own version — tap More in the reading bar to change it.
- Each bookmark can file its highlights into its own notebook, from the same menu. Notebooks explains what that does.
A new passage in the first bookmark clears the other two, on the assumption you have moved on to something else. If you would rather keep all three until you change them yourself, turn on Settings → General → Keep Bookmarks When The First Changes.
Bookmarks stay on the device that set them. They are not synced, because a bookmark is where this device is looking.
At the largest text sizes the three bookmarks become a single menu, so every control in the bar stays big enough to tap.
Going Back
Recent lists the passages you have opened, newest first. If you were holding two or three passages together, they are kept together — the row shows all of them and Open Set puts them all back, each bookmark in the version you were reading it in.
Recent is there to help you find your way back. It does not keep score of anything: there is nothing in FerventWord App that counts what you have read.
You can empty it at any time from Settings → Data & Backups → Clear Recent Passages.
